I’m delighted to welcome Mikaela Jackson of She Almighty as a guest blogger on www.feelfab.direct to share her top 5 tips to self empowerment with us to help you be the best version of you in 2019.
“Want to know the secret to being the best version of you in 2019? OK, I’ll be honest, there’s no silver bullet but there is a methodology which if applied is guaranteed to set you up for your best year and to achieve your full career and life potential….
Yep you’ve guessed it – self empowerment.
Self empowerment means taking control of your own life, making positive choices and having the self-belief and trust that you know what is best for you whether that be in your personal or professional life. Self empowerment is a mindset which if conditioned and backed by action will enable you to live a happy, fulfilled and balanced life.
You already have the power to be the best version of you and create the life you want in 2018.
Here are my 5 top tips to set you up for success…
- Look after number one
Operating at your best starts with you looking after number one in every aspect of your life – body, mind and soul. That includes how we nourish our bodies through food, exercise and sleep, to our relationships to how we choose to use our time.
If you are not eating a balanced diet, exercising or sleeping enough, chances are you won’t be feeling great. Check out this blog post for some tips for better sleep by Professor Jason Ellis.
If you have relationships which aren’t making you feel good whether that be at work or in your personal life then they are going to have a negative impact on you. And if you spend more time doing things that aren’t making you happy than things that do e.g. by being in a job you don’t love or by running around after others and not putting yourself first; then it’s a no-brainer – you won’t be at your best.
Become a priority in your own life and start to think about what the best version of you looks like.
Ask yourself this question:
What could I be doing better to look after number one?
- Take time out to reflect, plan and set yourself goals
In order to be the best version of you, you need a roadmap – to know what you want from life so that you can create a plan to make those things happen.
In our busy everyday lives we often neglect to take time out to think about what it is really we want and how we are tracking towards it. But in order to achieve the life you want you will need to take stock of where you are now, where you want to be, where the gaps are and do so on a regular basis.
So make sure you take time out regularly to check in with you, that you’re living in line with your values and priorities and that you’re heading in the right direction.
Also, when setting yourself goals make sure they are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timebound) but most importantly, know why achieving that goal is important to you.
Ask yourself this question:
What do I really want from life and how am I going to go about getting it?
- Form positive habits
Your life today is essentially a sum of your habits meaning that how happy or unhappy you are, successful or unsuccessful can be attributed to your habits.
Forming small positive habits over time can make a big difference to how you feel, especially when they are replacing negative ones. Plus, having more positive habits will equal a more positive and balanced lifestyle.
Think about what you could do to reform a current destructive habit and condition your environment to support you. For example, if you know you are a culprit of negative self-talk you could… create a positive mantra, have it somewhere visible like a screensaver and practise it daily, start reading books on mindset on your journey to work and subscribe to a blogger (like me!) who sends you helpful content straight to your inbox.
Tip: If your new habit coincides with a goal and the life you want then you are more likely to stick to it.
Ask yourself this question:
What positive habits would I like to form this year and how will they improve my life?
4. Adopt a PMA
A positive mental attitude (PMA) is the secret to success and happiness. In fact, having one could improve your health, enhance your relationships and even add years to your life apparently. So having a glass half-full outlook is a no brainer!
There are lots of things you can do to help you adopt a PMA, here are just a few worth trying…
Focus on the present and what you can control, don’t let your past define who you are today. Mix with positive people; it’s human nature to mimic the people we spend the most time with so hanging out with positive thinkers more frequently should get you thinking and acting in the desired way. Use positive language; the more positive our words, the more positive our thoughts and the more positive our results! Lastly practice gratitude; grab a journal and note down 5 things each day that you are truly thankful for in your life.
Ask yourself this question:
What will I do to ensure I adopt a PMA?
- Believe in You
The very essence of self empowerment is self-belief, trusting in your ability to know what is best for you and taking action on it.
If you do the above-mentioned things, that is, look after number one, take time out to reflect and plan for the life you want, form positive habits and adopt a PMA then you will already be making empowered choices and should trust your path and in your journey for the life you are going to lead and the person you are going to be.”
